Does counting Macros help lose weight?

When looking at diet options to lose weight, like we have stated before, counting calories is the way to go. But looking into the Macros (macronutrients) you ingest is also very important! So what are macronutrients? These are divided into carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

First things first, how do we count macros? Well first of all you count the number of calories you need to take per day to help you lose weight. This is based on your height, weight, age, and activity level. Let's say that number is 1800 calories/day.  Then you divide this number by the ratios (or percentage) of carbohydrates, fats and proteins that will make up those calories you eat per day. Ideally you want to keep the carbohydrate ratio the lowest and the protein the highest in your set up.

Let's say that you decide to eat 20% carbohydrates, 30% fats, and 50% protein. This means that of those 1800 calories per day you will be consuming, 360 calories will be carbohydrates, 540 calories will be fat, and 900 calories will be protein! This I guarantee you will not only make you lose weight but also build muscle!

Now, there are benefits to counting macros over strict dieting in that it allows for more flexibility on what you eat and does not prevent you from indulging in some of your favorite foods as long as you keep that ratios exact and DON'T CHEAT. It also allows for a more longer-lasting diet plan again because you are still able to eat "a little bit of everything".
